Helen Beltrame-Linné is a Brazilian screenwriter, script consultant and director that shares her time between São Paulo, Stockholm and the island of Fårö. After a career in Corporate Law, Helen entered the film industry as a creative and financial advisor to Brazilian director José Padilha and his Rio de Janeiro-based production company Zazen, where she consulted on several projects, including "Elite Squad: The Enemy Within" (2010), which would become the highest box office in Brazilian film history. After four years at Zazen, Helen became the director of The Bergman Center Foundation, where she curated exhibitions and the Bergman Week festival. Back to Brazil in 2018, Helen served as editor for the country’s largest newspaper, Folha de São Paulo.
Presently, Helen is a dedicated mentor and script consultant specialized in project development in the entertainment industry. She works with different aspects of storytelling, with main focus in fiction features and series, mostly in Brazil, USA, Europe and South East Asia.
Helen was a Script Editor at the Torino Film Lab and part of the selection commitee for development programs. She is also a mentor in fiction narratives for programs such as the Full Circle Lab, 12 Punto and the Pop Up Film Residency, where she follows the development of feature films and series from treatment stage, working closely with writers, directors and creative producers. In 2024 Helen was program manager for the Netflix Tatino development program, responsible for a total of ten series and film projects.
As a private script consultant, her most recents works include feature film projects by Swedish producer Patrik Andersson (“Midsummer”, “Euphoria”) and director Daniel Rezende (“Bingo”, “City of God”, “The Son of a Thousand Men”), as well as Paramount+ and Amazon series such as “5X Comedy” and “Spider”. As a screenwriter Helen co-wrote the adaptation of Leonardo Padura’s “The Man who Loved Dogs” with José Padilha (“Narcos”, “Robocop”) and the adaptation of Swedish best seller “The Reddest Rose” to be directed by Jane Magnusson (“Maddy the Model”, “Bergman – A year in a life”). In Brazil, her projects as a screenwriter include the rewriting of Michelangelo Antonioni’s legendary script “Technically Sweet” as well as the biopic “Marta”, on the life of six times best world’s soccer player. Helen is also co-creator of an original horror series with Anita Rocha da Silveira (“Medusa”).
Helen has finished shooting her first feature as a director, "My Letter to B", which is produced by Emilie Lesclaux and Kleber Mendonça Filho (“The Secret Agent", Brazil's nominated film for the Oscars 2025) and is currently in editing stage.
CASAQUARIUM is an initiative started by Helen in 2023 that offers artistic residency programs on the island of Fårö, welcoming artists, screenwriters, directors and producers to develop their projects with international mentorship and consultancy. Casaquarium has worked in collaboration with international organizations such as the Pop Up Film Residency, Br Lab, DiaLab and FRAPA. It has offered residencies for directors selected in the framework of talent and development programs such as the Munich Film Up (by the Munich Film Festival), the Next Step (by Cannes' Critics' Week) and Pop Up Series Incubator, funded by Creative Media. Casaquarium is supported by the Brazilian Embassy in Stockholm and the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Brazil, and seeking partnerships in Sweden with other institutions and programs, such as IASPIS.
Helen was awarded a fellowship to attend the Torino Film Lab 2020 as Script Editor, in Italy.
