Leonardo Pirondi is a filmmaker and artist born in São Paulo, Brazil. His films build and inhabit alternative worlds that move between reality and fiction; his filmmaking practice challenges traditional narrative structures that emerge from the fabulation of sociopolitical resonances within culture, history, technology, image-making, and orality. His films have been exhibited at various festivals worldwide, including TIFF, the Tiger Short Competition at IFFR, NYFF, Viennale, Mar del Plata, FICUNAM, BFI London, Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, Edinburgh, Melbourne, and others. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in film from the California Institute of the Arts and is a Sundance Institute Fellow. His work has been supported by the Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual in Portugal, Locarno Residency, MacDowell Residency, the Allan Sekula Social Documentary Fund, and the Tim Disney Prize for Excellence in the Storytelling Arts. He is also part of the selection committee for Badam Film's fund. In 2025, Leonardo received a fellowship to participate in the Locarno Residency and became part of the Paradiso Talent Network.
