With a degree in Graphic Design from UFRJ, a Screenwriting degree from Darcy Ribeiro Film School, and a Master's in Performance Studies from New York University, Julia Murat has been working in the audiovisual field since 1996. Throughout this period, she has served in various technical roles such as assistant director, producer, camera operator, and editor. As a producer and director, she created "FATHER'S DAY" (2008), which premiered at the Cinéma du Réel Festival and It's All True; "FOUND MEMORIES" (2011), selected for more than 80 festivals including Venice, Toronto, San Sebastian, and Rotterdam, accumulating 39 international awards; "PENDULAR" (2017), winner of the FIPRESCI Prize in Berlin; "LAW AND ORDER GUARANTEE OPERATIONS" (2017); and "RULE 34", which won Best Film at the Locarno Film Festival in 2022, Best Direction at the Rio Festival, and Special Jury Prize in Havana, among others. As a producer, Julia also collaborated on "THE EXCELLENCIES" by Douglas Duarte and "THE HEIRESSES" (2018) by Marcelo Martinessi, a film awarded in Berlin, Gramado, and Jeonju, as well as the Platino Award for Best First Film and the Fenix Award for Best Director. She was also an associate producer for films such as "THE PRIVATE LIFE OF HIPPOS" (2014), by Matias Mariani and Maíra Buhler, and "THE FEVER" (2020) by Maya Da-Rin, which won Best Actor at the Locarno Festival. In 2025, Julia was selected for the Pop Up Film Residency Paradiso Brazil program and became part of the Talent Network.
