Marcel Beltrán is a Cuban-Brazilian director and screenwriter based in São Paulo, and the founder of Mediocielo Films. His work investigates displacement, diaspora, and memory through archives and analog formats (Super 8 and 16mm), with a focus on sustainable practices. His fiction short "La nube" (2015) was awarded Best Film at the Havana Film Festival and has accumulated over 3 million views on YouTube. He co-directed the short film "Ponto Cego" (2025) with Luciana Vieira, which premiered at La Factory of the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes and received the "Novos Rumos" Redentor Trophy at the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival. His feature documentary "La opción cero" (2020) had its world premiere at IDFA and was screened at over 40 festivals, including Hot Docs, RIDM, DOC NYC, and Locarno. He is a professor at EICTV (Cuba) and works as a lecturer, jury member, and consultant. An EURODOC member, he has participated in programs such as Berlinale Talents, Rotterdam Lab, Locarno Open Doors, and La Fabrique Cinéma.
In 2026, Marcel was selected for the CASA CINE residency and became part of the Paradiso Talent Network.
